Architectural Overview & Case Study

Messenger Enhancer is a privacy-first browser extension (Manifest v3) built to protect user confidentiality and prevent "shoulder surfing" when accessing Facebook Messenger Web in public or shared spaces (e.g., co-working spaces, offices, cafes, and public transport).

Key Privacy & UI Features:
• Public Privacy & Auto-Blur Mode: Dynamically blurs chat messages, contact names, profile photos, and media previews by default to prevent unauthorized onlookers from reading sensitive conversations.
• Peek-on-Hover Interactions: Reveals hidden text and media smoothly only when hovered over, maintaining privacy while keeping the chat flow effortless.
• Anti-Shoulder Surfing Controls: Quick-toggle privacy modes allowing users to instantly shield their screen with a single key combination or toolbar click when someone approaches.
• Screen Masking & Discreet View: Adjusts contrast and layout density to minimize visual visibility from side angles.
• Client-Side Execution: Runs strictly as a lightweight content script on the local browser with zero external tracking or data collection, ensuring total user security.

Technical Stack:
JavaScript (ES6+), Chrome Extension API (Manifest v3), CSS Blur & Filter Effects, MutationObserver API for dynamic DOM nodes, Local Storage API.
